Citroen e-Relay Electric Luton Review

January 12th, 2023

The Citroen e-Relay Luton at a glance

If you’re looking for an eco-friendly van that is smooth and quiet to drive whilst providing abundant space with hassle-free loading, the Citroen e-Relay Luton has all of these combined.

Being fully electric, the e-Relay offers a comfortable drive that reduces noise pollution for both you as a driver and any pedestrians outside, as well as pollution to the atmosphere thanks to it having zero tail emissions. Though some people may be put off by the constraints associated with electric vehicles, rest assured that the Citroen e-Relay has an adequate driving range to achieve your daily needs along with multiple charging options so you are never left stranded.

For those who require a generous loading space as part of their occupation, the Luton body is spacious and sturdy, ideal for storing and transporting large goods. It is free from wheel arches to maximise space as much as possible with a fully rectangular floor for your convenience. To further improve the smoothness of your drive, the aerodynamic pod at the front of the van ensures smooth airflow when driving, which, when paired with the qualities of the electric transmission, results in a truly comfortable driving experience.

Engines and Spec

Since the Citroen e-Relay Luton is available as either an L3 or L4 model, it will be equipped with a 75 kWh battery. This offers a generous range of 154 miles, taking 9 to 12 hours to charge using either a 22 kW or 7 kW wall box charger respectively, whilst a 50 kW public charger will charge it up to 85% in as little as 45 minutes.

As for loading cargo, the Luton body provides a large, convenient rectangular loading space, with an internal width, length and height of 2057mm by 3480mm by 2235mm for the L3 model, and 2057mm by 4150mm by 2390mm for the L4 model. In addition to this, the space above the cab that is used to create an aerodynamic design also doubles up as extra storage space, allowing an additional bit of room to store any small items.

In terms of how much the e-Relay Luton can carry, the L3 has an impressive payload of 1147kg, whilst the L4 has a slightly lower payload of 979kg (both of these excluding the weight of the driver). These are within the average weight of what a typical Luton van can carry and fairs well in comparison to rival electric Luton vans on the market.

The Luton body comprises high-quality GRP panels on a galvanised steel and aluminium frame, making the bodywork incredibly robust and weather-resistant. There is also an option for your e-Relay Luton to be made from lightweight panels and framework if you wish to raise the payload by approximately an extra 80kg.

You also have the choice to include an optional tail lift with a capacity of 500kg for easier loading and unloading.

Interior

Inside the cabin area, the gear stick has been removed and replaced with an intuitive button design to easily choose your drive mode (Drive, Neutral and Reverse), whilst all the necessary performance information you need (i.e. battery level, range left and current driving mode) is displayed in the interior mirror readily available for you to see with a glance. However, this does leave the instrument cluster redundant, as it simply shows your speed and nothing else.

Just like the combustion alternative, the Citroen e-Relay Luton has a spacious cabin with room for two additional passengers with sufficient legroom. As for storage, there are plenty of storage spaces inbuilt within the dashboard.

For comfort and safety, there are up to 11 driver aids available, including grip control for the e-Relay Luton. This is a traction control system that can aid the driver and improve passenger comfort over a range of terrains, including snow, mud and sand, meaning you can drive the e-Relay Luton anywhere you may be required to go.

Inside the Luton body, there are both locking strips and tie rails, the latter of which are located higher up the body sides, in order to provide secure lashing options to keep your cargo safe during transportation. The flooring is made of a birch plywood that is lightweight yet durable to support heavy loads without damage.
