Why do you need a service & maintenance package?
Investing in a service and maintenance package for a new commercial van is a strategic choice that ensures cost efficiency, through identifying potential issues before they escalate into costly problems.
Regular maintenance minimises the risk of unexpected breakdowns, ensuring that your van spends more time on the road, than in a repair centre. Ultimately, this translates to increased productivity and profitability for your business, as the van remains operational for longer periods.
Routine servicing not only sustains the vehicle’s performance but also extends its lifespan, which maximises your investment in the long-term. In essence, a service and maintenance package for your commercial van isn’t just about immediate cost savings. By addressing wear and tear promptly you are financing the sustained efficiency, reliability, and durability of your vehicle; safeguarding its value over time.

How often will my vehicle need to be serviced?
Depending on what van you purchase, there will be varying manufacturer servicing guidelines that will suggest how often you should routinely service your van. A general rule of thumb is that you should get your vehicle serviced once a year, however an additional service may be required depending on the accumulated mileage and the age of the van.
Tyres
In the UK, the legal tread depth limit is 1.6mm for both cars and vans, however you should look to replace your tyres if you notice any uneven wear, change in pressure and general damage. This is to ensure optimum safety whilst on the road and to keep your vehicle performing and handling at its best. Tyre degradation can vary depending on road conditions, personal driving habits, and vehicle alignment/camber.
Tyre punctures can oppose a serious problem to drivers, which can contribute you increased downtime of the vehicle. Depending on the type of puncture and the root cause, this will affect the severity of the puncture and therefore the vehicles efficiency.
Slow punctures can occur without the driver’s knowledge, resulting in a loss of inflation over a longer period of time. Wheel damage such as tire bead damage (where the bead meets the rim), valve stem damage (the mechanism in which tyres are inflated by), and general punctures whereby a sharp object is bedded within the tyre are the most common causes of a slow-puncture.
Servicing Electric Vehicles
Electric van servicing and maintenance schedules differ significantly from fuel-powered vans due to their distinct motor components. EV’s generally have fewer moving parts compared to internal combustion engines. However, specialised knowledge and training is required to handle their unique elements such as batteries, electric motors, and charging systems.
The type of service for an electric van predominantly focuses on battery health, cooling systems, and electrical components. Battery maintenance is pivotal to the longevity of an electrical vehicle. Checks will include the managing of charging behaviours, degradation, and the correct functioning of cooling systems.
Typically, electric vans require less frequent servicing due to fewer parts prone to wear and tear. However, battery health checks and software updates may need more regular attention to ensure the vehicle is operating at an optimal performance. Service schedules may vary based on mileage and manufacturer recommendations, often leading to longer intervals between service appointments compared to fuel-powered vans.
Understanding these nuanced differences and adhering to manufacturer-recommended maintenance guidelines are critical for ensuring the efficiency and reliability of these vans in the long run.
Benefits of a Service & Maintenance Plan
Cost Savings: A structured maintenance plan reduces the risk of major breakdowns or component failures. By addressing potential issues early on, you avoid costly repairs that could disrupt your business operations. Alongside this, a maintenance plan allows for better budget forecasting when it comes to repairs. With regular servicing, you can anticipate and plan for maintenance costs, avoiding unexpected financial hits.
Increased Longevity & Efficiency: Regular servicing ensures that the van’s components, from the engine to the transmission, are well-maintained. This upkeep contributes to the van’s longevity, allowing it to perform optimally for an extended period of time. A well-maintained van operates more efficiently – regular oil changes, filter replacements, and tuning keep the engine running smoothly, optimising fuel consumption and reducing emissions.
Enhanced Safety and Reduced Downtime: Routine maintenance checks cover crucial safety features such as brakes, tires, and suspension. Ensuring these elements are in top condition minimises the risk of accidents due to faulty or poor functioning parts. Scheduled maintenance helps avoid unexpected breakdowns, which means less time off the road for repairs. We will organise and coordinate any collection and delivery of the vehicle, including a replacement if required.
Manufacturer Compliance and Enhanced Resale Value: Following the manufacturer’s recommended service intervals ensures that your van stays within warranty guidelines, ultimately safeguarding you from potential warranty-related complications. A documented service history demonstrates that the van has been well cared for, which can positively impact its resale value if you decide to upgrade or sell.
Tailored Support and Peace of Mind: Service plans often offer personalised assistance, providing access to expert advice, technical support, and guidance on optimising your van’s performance. At Vanaways our service and maintenance plan provides you with a 24/7 breakdown and drivers helpline, meaning you have around the clock support. Knowing that your van is regularly maintained and in good condition gives you peace of mind, allowing you to focus on your business without worrying about unexpected complications.
