Maxus Deliver 9 Luton vs Maxus E-Deliver 9 Electric Luton

January 12th, 2023

When looking for a Luton van to efficiently carry large items and assist with removals, the Chinese manufacturer Maxus offers a few contenders that are worth considering.

Following the release of the popular Maxus Deliver 9 Luton, Maxus made the decision to introduce the all-electric version to give road users the choice to contribute towards a more sustainable future.

The Maxus Deliver 9 Luton offers a spacious rear compartment and comfy interiors, making it ideal for home removals and deliveries, while the Maxus E-Deliver 9 Luton is its sustainable, environmentally-friendly electric alternative, promising a smoother and quieter ride with lower running costs.

While both the Maxus Deliver 9 Luton and the Maxus E-Deliver 9 Luton offer a number of benefits, it can be difficult to decide which vehicle is the best for you or your business.

Keep on reading for an in-depth comparison of the Maxus Deliver 9 Luton and the Maxus E-Deliver 9 Luton including the engines and specs and interior to discover which Luton van is most suited to your needs.

Engines and Spec

The biggest difference between the Maxus Deliver 9 Luton and the Maxus E-Deliver 9 Luton is the engine.

While the Maxus Deliver 9 Luton has a large Euro 6d, D20 diesel 2.2-litre engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox allowing users to seamlessly accelerate uphill, tow heavy loads and cope with the storage needs of more items, the Maxus E-Deliver offers an 100% electric engine with a smooth and comfy ride.

The e-Deliver 9’s electric motor develops 201bhp and 229 lb-ft of peak torque. That’s considerably more power than the 161bhp diesel model, although it doesn’t, however, quite match the Ford E-Transit’s 266bhp output.

In terms of charging, the Maxus E-Deliver 9 Luton can be charged by a dedicated public charging point or home EV charge system so you no longer have to spend time queuing at petrol stations, as you would with the standard Maxus Deliver 9 Luton. The Maxus E-Deliver 9 Luton also reaches 80% of its charge potential in just 40 minutes.

As far as the payload is concerned, the standard Maxus Deliver 9 Luton model offers a reasonable payload of 1,100kg and easy loading while the Maxus E-Deliver 9 Luton excels with an impressive 1290kg payload.

As mentioned in our original Maxus Deliver 9 Luton review, while the payload of the Maxus Deliver 9 Luton is slightly less than that of its electric counterpart, it still promises to offer plenty of room to store parcels and deliveries securely.

While the electric engine of the Maxus E-Deliver 9 Luton does promise a quieter and smoother ride than the standard Maxus Deliver 9 Luton, the electric engine isn’t as quiet as you might expect, and there is rather a lot of road noise so you’ll feel some vibrations through the wheel.

Interior

The interior of both the Maxus Deliver 9 Luton and the Maxus E-Deliver van are similar – both are undeniably spacious while offering a number of impressive features.

Like in most modern vans, a large infotainment touchscreen (10.0in in this case) dominates the dash, and there’s plenty of piano black plastic and chrome-effect trim on display. As with the diesel Deliver 9, material quality isn’t brilliant and you’ll hear a fair few squeaks, but it’s not intrusive.

There are a number of safety and technology features available in both variants, including helpful halogen headlights and tail lights paired with a multifunction steering wheel and rear parking sensor.

While the touchscreen is a bit sluggish to use, it does offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and both systems work flawlessly.

The Verdict/Snap shot

While both Luton vans offer a number of benefits, the van you choose will depend entirely on your business’s individual needs.

The Maxus Deliver 9 Luton van boasts a sustainable, environmentally-friendly engine offering quieter engine noise with lower running costs, while the Maxus Deliver 9 Luton’s diesel engine allows users to seamlessly accelerate uphill, tow heavy loads and cope with the storage needs of heavier items.
