Maxus eDeliver 3 Van Review

June 15th, 2023

The Maxus eDeliver 3 at a glance

If you’re unfamiliar with the name Maxus, that’s because it’s the repackaged version of LDV who, alongside the new branding have brought us the Maxus eDeliver 3: perhaps one of the quirkiest small vans on the UK market right now.

The uniqueness of this van starts with the fact that it is an exclusively electric model; there were no preceding diesel, petrol or plug-in variants to speak of. Better yet, it was always designed to be electric, so is constructed using lightweight materials like aluminium and composites to compensate for the weight of the batteries. Naturally, this all works in the vehicle’s favour when it comes to performance, range and payload.

The eDeliver 3 has the potential to suit a wide range of commercial applications, especially for tradespeople who require a small panel van that can get them from A to B efficiently, whilst still carrying a strong payload. To find out whether this is the right van for your business needs, keep reading!

Engines and Spec

With a 100% electric, 121bhp  motor, the eDeliver 3 comes with a choice of two battery sizes: while the smaller 35kWh model offers a driving range of just 99 miles, the larger 50.23kWh option yields a much stronger 155 miles on a full charge. The stark difference between the two batteries allows for drivers to easily choose between the option that best suits their needs – if you frequently drive long distances or make motorway journeys, for example, you’re probably going to want to opt for the larger battery.

Using a DC rapid charger – the type found on the public charging network – charging the eDeliver 3 to an 85% charge takes around 45 minutes. This time increases significantly, however, when charging with a domestic AC charger: you’ll need 6 hours for the smaller battery and 8 for the larger – though this does take you up to 100%. Plus, this is the ideal length of time for overnight charging.

Another unique benefit of the eDeliver 3 is its lightweight chassis, making it a relatively speedy little vehicle that can achieve an acceleration of 0-62mph in 11 seconds. When combined with its accurate driving calculator, regenerative braking and light steering, this is a van that drivers certainly won’t find themselves getting uncomfortable in in a hurry.

Interior

Taking a look inside the cabin, the eDeliver doesn’t necessarily deliver anything that other vans at its price point don’t. Inside, you will find two seats, easy-clean rubber flooring and a comprehensive infotainment system with satellite navigation. And whilst it does provide all of the practical features that a tradesperson would look for in a commercial vehicle, there is an impression that these features are a little less hardwearing than those found in rival models.

The touchscreen infotainment system can be found on the central console, and includes USB capabilities, Apple Carplay and Android Auto. There is no DAB radio to be found, so prospective buyers should be aware that they’ll have to use FM unless they wish to connect their own mobile device.

There are several storage spaces dotted throughout the cab, including reasonably large door pockets, which is great for tradespeople who need to stash personal items, paperwork or small pieces of equipment. Despite this, it is worth noting that none of these areas are covered, and there’s also no glove box – there is simply a slot on the dashboard instead. Two cup holders can be found on the floor between the seats.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Strong driving range
  • Decent payload for its size
  • Low running costs

Cons

  • More battery choice in rivals
  • Cramped interior
  • Could be better equipped

The Verdict

As a whole, the Maxus eDeliver 3 lives up to what is expected of a small, electric panel van. Combining a reasonable payload with a highly accurate driving calculator and smooth driving experience, there’s no question that many tradespeople – including electricians, carpenters, plumbers and even courier drivers – will find this a practical, cost-effective and reliable vehicle. Low running costs make this a great choice for those frequently making long drives, while the lightweight body allows you to nip from A to B in no time at all.
