Mercedes-Benz eVito Electric Van Review

December 6th, 2022

The Mercedes-Benz eVito Van at a glance

The Mercedes-Benz Vito has been produced by the company since 1997 as a standard panel van. Since then the van has gone through numerous redesigns and facelifts, leaving us with the 2014 model that we see on the road nowadays. A few years after this third generation model hit the streets, Mercedes-Benz decided to add another vehicle to its arsenal and release the e-Vito in 2020.

It is a 100% electric vehicle from Mercedes-Benz that is designed to help businesses on the go. With an extended range and rapid charging, it’s perfect for businesses looking to go the distance and not hang about too long charging up. You can expect a smooth performance and a high payload.

Van Sales UK are big fans of the Mercedes-Benz e-Vito, so have put together this review on the performance of the van and the features that you can expect.

Engines and Spec

The e-Vito does away with the diesel engine of the Vito and replaces it with an 85kW electric motor which is about the equivalent of 115 horsepower. The engine produces zero emissions, so is great for the environment and perfect for if you work in an area with a low emission zone in effect.

This bigger battery can get you about over 150 miles on average, which is a good distance for an electric vehicle, especially compared to the 92 miles in previous electric models from Mercedes-Benz. It uses a single speed transmission for a smooth drive, and the torque will get a full load moving without much effort. It can easily get up to motorway speed, but is most comfortable at around 50-60mph.

It changes from a normal fuel-powered car by having four different braking modes, but they are simple to understand and worth utilising if you want to achieve the maximum range of the van. It also has three different driving modes changed by a simple button. There is Economy, Economy Plus and Comfort and they all moderate the motor power and accelerator response.

The e-Vito comes in two sizes, long (L2) and extra-long (L3), which both have a gross vehicle weight of 3.2 tonnes. This provides a payload of 923kg for the L2 model and 898kg for the L3. The vehicle can charge pretty quickly, meaning if you have to stop for a charge, you won’t be waiting too long before you can get back on the road.

Interior

The interior of the van is very similar to the regular Vito, with a few key changes to accommodate the electric controls. This means it’s easy to adapt to the van if you’re moving from a regular Vito to an electric model. The touchscreen has been redesigned recently, improving it vastly from old models. It is a seven-inch screen that allows you to plug your smartphone into.

If you’re used to driving in Mercedes-Benz vehicles you’re probably used to the unconventional design, but moving vehicle brands might take a bit of time to get used to.

The cab is small but cosy, with a low roof and comfortable seats. The key slot is on the left instead of the usual right, and the drive and reverse lever is positioned where most other vans put their windscreen controls.

Pros & Cons

Pros

The Verdict

The Mercedes-Benz e-Vito Panel Van is a great choice if you’re looking for a reliable ride with excellent driving performance.
