Most Common Van Problems And How To Fix Them

March 3rd, 2023

Whether you’re driving, say, a Transit tipper van or a Transit Courier Van, even the most reliable van can have problems. When your van has issues, it is important to get it checked by a specialist. And, to maintain the most reliable of vans, whether a Transit courier or Tipper van, it is important to stay on top of the most common issues that can affect your vehicle. Read on to find out about the most common van problems and learn how you can fix them.

Door Problems

A common problem which can affect even the most reliable of vans are issues surrounding the door and the hinge. If a door isn’t shutting properly, is stiff to open, or makes a strange noise when opening or driving, this can be of great detriment to your van. A Transit courier with a door problem, for example,  puts the payload at risk which can lead to further damage. It is important to get a door repaired or replaced if there is a problem.

Leaking Fuel Tank

When a Transit courier or Tipper van is damaged and has suffered knocks to its fuel tank, the fuel tank can begin to leak. This is a problem to be careful of, as fuel is a highly flammable material, and can potentially alight with the payload, especially in a Tipper van. The Fuel will need to be replaced if there is any evidence of fuel leakage.

Engine Problems

Whilst you might think you have the most reliable van possible, if you haven’t had your engine inspected recently, this could lead to further problems with your van arising. Engine problems include when water leaks from the carburettor to the cylinders and rust the pistons inside. A rusty piston can prevent the engine of a van from igniting.

Another engine problem Transit vans and tipper vans face is the EGR (Exhaust Gas Re-circulation) valves getting clogged up with carbon. If this is an issue with your Transit courier van, you’ll experience a lack of power when accelerating and black smoke coming from the exhaust.

Kingpin Failure

A common problem with a variety of the most reliable vans, from Transit couriers to Transit tipper vans, is faulty kingpins. Kingpin failure makes the vehicle pull to one side when driving and, whilst a common issue, it is one that should be checked by a specialist.

Faulty Differential

If your Transit van, Transit tipper van, or other light commercial vehicle has a whining noise when accelerating, the van clearly has a faulty differential that will need to be replaced.
