Peugeot e-Boxer Electric Tipper

December 14th, 2022

The Peugeot e-Boxer Tipper at a glance

As an automotive manufacturer, Peugeot are renowned for innovation and quality. Since they first took to the roads in 1929, a keen focus on passion and technological innovation has helped them to develop a reputation for reliability and fine French engineering. Today, almost a century later, forward-thinking is still a central component of their brand and ethos.

In a world moving towards sustainability and climate consciousness, Peugeot has led the charge for commercial vehicles, offering an electric version of every van it manufactures. From the e-Partner to the e-Expert, there is no shortage of choice when searching for efficient, environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional diesel engines.

Last to join the ranks among Peugeot’s all-electric fleet of vans is the e-Boxer. For this vehicle, Peugeot enlisted the services of the UK-based conversion specialist BEDEO, an electrification company well-known for their experience converting diesel vans to electric variants. Though this is not technically a factory-built electric Peugeot, the e-Boxer offers a range of benefits and alternate body types. Among these is the Tipper, an ideal choice for tradespeople and manual workers looking for reliability, loading and unloading capabilities and material or equipment transportation.

Read on to discover our thoughts regarding the Peugeot e-Boxer Tipper’s engine, specifications and build quality.

Engines and Spec

First things first, let’s take a look at the engine, or rather, the battery. The Boxer’s standard diesel engine is replaced by a 90kW electric motor, powered by either 37kWh or 75kWh battery units. Fortunately, these packs are mounted below the van’s flooring, meaning they do not impede on load space.

The e-Boxer’s motor is connected to a gearbox that is, to say the least, a little unorthodox. Instead of a conventional lever, drivers will need to get used to controlling the single-speed gearbox via a series of push buttons. However, individuals will quickly become accustomed to this method of driving and find that the electric motor lends itself to impressively smooth and quiet journeys.

Regarding range, the e-Boxer Tipper is capable of travelling 154 miles with a fully charged 75kWh battery pack; the smaller 37kWh version can cover 73 miles. There is no denying that the larger battery offers an impressive range, making it an ideal choice for tradespeople and professionals doing a lot of driving throughout their day.

Payload & Space

Of course, those considering this van will be wondering how the Tipper modification performs. The good news is that the e-Boxer Tipper boasts accessibility and functionality in abundance, with simple-to-use controls and 45-degree capability.

While payload and weight capacity vary depending on battery size and model year, it is worth noting that the maximum payload is 1.222kg. This is more than enough for those working in landscaping and other professions requiring the removal of large quantities of material and debris.

Interior

The e-Boxer’s interior doesn’t exactly scream modernity, but in terms of practicality, it covers all bases. Owing to its existence as a third-party conversion, the cab may feel somewhat alien to those used to Peugeot’s factory standard models. For example, all of the information regarding electric function, such as the battery charge level and driving range, is digitally displayed via the rearview mirror. This works just fine, but will definitely take a little getting used to.

Regarding in-cab tech and entertainment, the e-Boxer does feature a touchscreen infotainment system including Bluetooth and sat-nav. Our only criticism would be that it is a little on the small side and can feel fiddly to negotiate. As far as storage is concerned, however, the e-Boxer has more than enough, so this will be no problem for those looking for extra space for an abundance of paraphernalia.
