Peugeot Expert Van & Double Cab Review

Peugeot Expert Van & Double Cab Review - Van Sales UK
August 4th, 2023

The Peugeot Expert Van & Double Cab at a glance

After a complete overhaul in 2016 – with a new platform, improved appearance and a new array of safety kit – the Peugeot Expert has since made a name for itself amongst midweight van users in the UK. Now in its third-generation, the latest Expert offers more payload, a greater load volume and much tighter turning circles than its predecessor. Combine this with a series of high-tech features – including plenty of active safety equipment, hands-free automatic doors and a head-up display – and you have a highly practical vehicle.

Both the base model and the Double Cab variant are ideal for the easy transportation of crew and cargo, making it a versatile van that is suitable for a number of commercial applications. The Double Cab model can carry up to six passengers, making it an excellent option for businesses that require the transportation of a small crew or team. There is also a large cargo area on offer that can be used to transport equipment, tools and supplies. Granting users with the ability to conveniently transport both equipment and crew from A to B at once, this configuration can increase the efficiency of many different trades.

Read on to find out all about the Peugeot Expert and Double Cab, as well as what industries it is best suited to.

Engines and Spec

The Expert shares underpinnings with Citroen Dispatch, Vauxhall Vivaro and Fiat Scudo – a platform which is also used in a number of passenger cars. As such, the Expert has a more car-like feel than its rivals, and also benefits from some of the latest safety tech which most frequently crops up in mainstream production cars models.

Businesses attempting to reduce their carbon footprint and fuel costs will be pleased to find that the Expert range is fitted with 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre BlueHDI engines – both of which offer optimised power, efficiency and lower CO2 emissions. There are power ratings of 95hp / 210Nm or 116hp / 300Nm for the 1.6-litre motor and 120hp / 340Nm, 150hp / 370Nm or 180hp / 400Nm for the 2.0-litre engine. All options are quick off the mark and will get you from A to B in a flash, wish the 180hp version being one of the most powerful vans on the market.

Three body lengths are available across two wheelbases: Compact, Standard and Long. The Double Cab is too available in standard and long configurations, though there is only one roof height on offer across the board. In terms of load space, a maximum payload of 1,458kg is available on vans with 2.0-litre diesel power. If your cargo is crew, however, the Double Cab comes with a choice of either a fixed or folding bulkhead, allowing up to 5.5 cubic metres of load space in the Long body length.

Interior

Regarding the feel and quality of the cab, it is somewhat less spacious than other medium vans, which may pose a challenge to those wishing to use their van as a mobile office. However, if a cosier cab isn’t an issue for you, the comfortable handling and drivability of the Expert make up for this. Of course, if you opt for the Double Cab option with more seats, this naturally becomes far less of an issue.

Though small, the Expert’s cab offers a number of storage compartments which are ideal for keeping the van tidy and clutter-free. One of these spaces is handily located below the passenger seats, allowing larger items and valuables to be kept out of sight.

As standard, this van is fitted with a number of modern features, including electric windows, cruise control, DAB radio, Bluetooth, aux and USB connectivity. While the cab might feel a little on the small size, this should by no means make the Expert any less of a contender in your choice of vans.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Pleasant to drive
  • Solid payload capacity
  • Plenty of safety kit

Cons

  • Lack of in-cab storage
  • Fit and finish could be more refined

The Verdict

We believe that the Peugeot Expert is a standout choice for van users looking for a medium-sized vehicle. With a sizable payload, comfortable driving experience and important safety features, plus a range of body lengths that includes a convenient and spacious Double Cab, it can comprehensively suit a wide range of commercial uses. It must be said that the Double Cab version of the Expert is especially effective in industries that require the transportation of both employees and equipment, including construction, landscaping and plumbing, as well as for tradespeople such as electricians, painter-decorators and bricklayers.

If you work in one of these professions, the Peugeot Expert will be able to provide a high-quality day-to-day commercial vehicle experience, whilst also saving your business money in the long run. Whether you’re interested in the Double Cab or another variant, Vanaways can help. We stock a wide range of diesel and electric vehicles that can suit an equally vast number of commercial uses.
