Peugeot Partner Van Review

Peugeot Partner Van Review
November 17th, 2022

The Peugeot Partner Van at a glance

First launched in 1996, the Peugeot Partner has long been one of the most popular multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) available on the market. This is due to its great design, perfect for a casual driver as well as for use by a business. The van was the joint winner of the Parkers Small Van of the Year Award in both 2021 and 2020.

It’s an extremely popular model and one of Peugeot’s best sellers, with the Peugeot e-Partner being released in 2021 to expand the range even more. While the Peugeot Partner and Citroen Berlingo are the same van beneath their branding, the Partner has a few key differences to set it apart from its Citroen rival, most notably in the cab.

The Peugeot Partner has consistently been refined and improved over the years, optimising its performance for professionals and casual drivers. The latest model was launched in the UK in 2019, quickly cementing itself as one of the best choices on the market. It has plenty of storage space and seats for whatever you need, all while keeping that sleek Peugeot brand that people love so much.

Here at Van Sales UK, we love the great benefits that the Peugeot Partner Van brings with it, so have put together this guide highlighting its best features.

Engines and Spec

In the past, the Peugeot Partner has been sold with both diesel and petrol engines, however, only diesel options can currently be bought new. The newest model in 2019 had 3 diesel engines available at launch, a choice of BlueHDi 75, 100 or 130. These were then updated for Euro 6.2, replacing them with similarly powerful 1.5-litre alternatives.

This range of engine sizes can lead to great handling and impressive manoeuvrability. The BlueHDi 130 targets customers looking for a more premium driving experience, available with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The latest models of the BlueHDi 100 are equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, making them more fuel efficient and quieter at speed.

In terms of driving, you can always expect a consistently smooth and responsive transmission, essential as it can require plenty of gear changing when driven hard. The powerful engine requires plenty of revving but has remarkably strong pulling power to help you on hills.

The Partner is available in two body lengths, a Standard L1 and a Long L2. In the longer model, the stretched wheelbase and extended rear overhang allow you to carry longer loads but carry 50kg less. The capacity for the standard length is 1000kg but both models will carry two Euro pallets with ease.

Interior

The Partner utilises the classic i-Cockpit dashboard layout and small steering wheel visible in their other vehicle types. This unique design has made it popular with some, but for those who like change, might take a bit of getting used to. The steering wheel helps steering be light and quick, making manoeuvres easy but may take a bit of time to get used to.

The i-Cockpit has an instrument panel that sits higher on the dashboard than a conventional layout. It provides a more sporty feel but can take a bit longer to get used to. The touchscreen is angled towards the driver, meaning it can be handled easily but the downside of the instrument panel is the air conditioning controls being tucked away and hard to reach.

Standard models can come with either two or free front seats, while the long model is available as a crew cab, enabling you to have a second row of seats. This second row can fold down when not required. The higher-spec models have a good level of insulation, making the ride quieter, even though the engine is not that noisy anyways.

There is plenty of storage available in the cab, with a shelf above the seat, a box on the dashboard, space beneath the dials, large door bins and a pair of cupholders.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • May look small but large inside
  • Great payload for the size
  • Easy to drive

Cons

  • The touchscreen could be improved
  • Dashboard layout irregular
  • Tech limited to top-spec models

The Verdict

It’s hard to say something about the Peugeot Partner Van that hasn’t been said by van experts everywhere. It’s a reliable small van with plenty of space and great performance. It’s cheap to run, looks great and is easily adaptable for use by professionals and regular drivers alike. The cab may take some getting used to, but once you’ve figured it out you can expect a great performance.
