The Top 5 Vans for City Drivers

Electric vehicle
March 22nd, 2022

Having the right commercial vehicle to help you get any job done is vital. This blog from Van Sales UK takes a look at some of the best city vans on the market today.

Fiat Doblo

The Fiat Doblo boasts a large load space capable of holding three Euro pallets. It is also available with a high-roof option, which is fairly rare in small vans. Its payload ratings are among the best of the small vans around today, with the maximum payload sitting at around 1,050kg.

Admittedly, the interior is a little sparse and poorly equipped by modern standards. However, the vehicle drives well and its diesel engine is efficient, which is a must for city driving.

Peugeot e-Partner

The Peugeot e-Partner is a small electric van that boasts a driving range of 170 miles and a maximum payload of 800kg. There’s a load-through flap to allow for items up to 3.4 metres long and folding the passenger seat down frees up an additional 500 litres of storage capacity.

Charging takes around 7 hours from a 7kW wall box, meaning that it can be easily charged overnight. While out and about, the van can be replenished at speeds of up to 100kW, which would take a near-empty battery to 80% in about 30 minutes.

Ford Transit Connect

The Ford Transit Connect is now more efficient, safer and better suited to a range of applications than ever before. Most are powered by a 1.5-litre EcoBlue diesel engine, with three different outputs available: 74bhp, 99bhp, and 118bhp. Depending on the output, the gearbox will either be a five-speed manual or a six-speed manual. An automatic gearbox option is also available on the 99bhp and 118bhp engines.

Two lengths of Transit Connect are available, but there is just one height option. It also comes with Econetic fuel-saving equipment including advanced battery management, acceleration control, switchable speed limiter, gearshift indicator and automatic start-stop.

Citroen Berlingo

The Citroen Berlingo is a comfortable and refined van with a spacious cab, payload ratings over 1,000kg, and high-tech features including overload sensors and cameras. There are petrol, diesel and electric power options, each of which has its own benefits for city driving. It also comes in two body styles: a shorter 5-seat one (M) and a long 7-seat one (XL).

Toyota Proace City

A fairly new model, the Toyota Proace City is similar to the Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo. Like these, it has its own unique exterior but copies the interior almost identically. It has the same 1.5-litre engine and a range of connectivity and infotainment options.

In order to differentiate the Proace City, Toyota included some of the best features small vans can offer, such as countless airbags, tyre pressure monitoring and other safety systems. It’s a little pricier than the others as a result, but it does offer warranty cover for up to 10 years.
