Van Life: Tips for Travelling Solo

Van Life: Tips for Travelling Solo
May 5th, 2023

Hitting the open road with just you, your van, and the amazing countryside is undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable experiences. In recent years, van life has become increasingly popular as people seek a break from the hustle and bustle of normal life. With a short drive, you can reach some incredible destinations within the UK or even journey beyond into Europe. Though there is no question that travelling alone comes with its challenges but navigating these is one of the things which makes these experiences so enjoyable. So, check out this blog to get some advice on how to deal with these challenges so you can stay safe on your trips!

Research your route

Often when exploring the world in your van, you will find yourself in locations that are a touch off the beaten track. This can make navigating these areas challenging, and you may even get lost from time to time. This is why it is incredibly important to research your route before you leave. This will mean that you are very familiar with the locations that you are travelling through, so if you do come into trouble, then you know where you are and how to get to safety. So, before you leave, make sure that you have your journey set.

Roof tent or conversion?

Many people are now choosing to convert their vans into campervans seeing it as the more affordable option than buying an already converted model. While this is generally true, there is an argument for fitting a roof tent to your van and leaving the space within for other purposes. When you’re travelling alone, you may need some more space for more long-term options or you might want the ability to store items such as surfboards within the vehicle to avoid them being stolen. This is where a roof tent can come in handy, as you will have far more space within the vehicle.

Take a map

Modern phones are undeniably incredibly capable and they will provide you with enough signal to navigate the roads nine times out of ten. Though there will be times when you dip out of these signal areas and at this point, it is vital that you have a map and know how to use it. Without a map, you could get extremely lost and this could lead to terrible consequences. So make sure that you have an up-to-date map of the areas which you are travelling to as well as a compass and the ability to use the map.
