Vauxhall Combo Van Review

October 20th, 2022

The Vauxhall Combo at a glance

As the joint winner of the Parkers Small Van of the Year award in 2021 and 2020, the Vauxhall Combo is now a front-runner in the small van class.

It was one of the first models from Vauxhall to be launched as part of the company’s ownership by the PSA Group.

There are three trims on the Combo – Edition, Sportive and LE Nav, meaning it has a slightly simpler lineup than some of its siblings at Citroen and Peugeot.

It has generous cargo weights in the back, easy access and plenty of useful load-carrying options.

On top of that, the cab is a comfortable place to spend time, and there’s a raft of great safety kits available to make working life easier. On the road, the diesel engines deliver enough pulling power to keep pace with traffic, while the car-derived running gear means it feels good to drive, too. The Combo should definitely be on any small van buyer’s shortlist.

The Vauxhall Combo Panel Van is available on Van Sales UK for just £199 + VAT.

This review will cover everything from the engines and specs to the interior of this highly sought-after vehicle.

Engines and Spec

The Vauxhall Combo van boasts an impressive range of engine options featuring excellent fuel consumption to help minimise CO2 emissions.

The vehicle provides a comfortable, easy-going driving experience, and comes with a choice of three diesel engines and one petrol engine. From 75-130PS, there’s a range of options to suit your mileage and payload choice.

The Vauxhall Combo van has a punchy and efficient award-winning 1.2 petrol engine featuring start/stop technology, a turbocharger and three cylinders with double overhead camshafts.

The Combo 1.5 Turbo Diesel can also be equipped with a sophisticated 8-speed automatic transmission.

The engine provides 130hp and 300Nm of torque and comes with a choice of a six-speed manual or an optional eight-speed automatic.

The van has been set up with comfort in mind and manages to isolate the cabin from road imperfections quite well.

Softly padded seats and plenty of suspension travel work together to soak up larger bumps, and the result is a small van that serves up long-distance comfort pretty well- even if some may find the seats a little flat.

If you are looking for a comfortable van with an efficient engine and excellent fuel consumption, the Vauxhall Combo van might be the perfect vehicle for you.

Interior

The Vauxhall Combo’s interior is packed full of fantastic features making every trip cool, calm and convenient.

Climb into the driver’s seat in the Vauxhall Combo Cargo and you’ll find a spacious cabin, with a driver-focused dash angling the centre controls towards you.

The Vauxhall Combo uses the same touchscreen infotainment system as the Peugeot Partner and Citroen Berlingo. This means you get an 8.0-inch touchscreen with six shortcut keys on either side. Standard models come with a small monochrome display instead of the touchscreen, surrounded by small buttons for the DAB radio, USB socket and Bluetooth.

The adjustable steering wheel and premium seats will keep you comfortable at all times, and the vehicle also has up to 15 storage compartments, Bluetooth connectivity, DAB radio and the option of smartphone projection and Sat Nav.

Of course, there is air conditioning available to keep your cabin cool and comfortable. The controls are ergonomically designed to make sure everything’s right where you need it.

Pros & Cons

Pros

The Verdict

Overall, we think that the Vauxhall Combo van lives up to its reputation. This vehicle is a top competitor in the small van market with generous cargo space, comfortable seating, and an efficient engine.

The Vauxhall’s Combo is a shining example of how joint ventures should work. The Combo is practical, comfortable and distinguishable enough from its competitors. It’s easy to drive, cheap to run and extremely practical. It pretty much ticks all the major boxes that you’d hope for when buying a class-leading small van

For those who are more used to driving a car, it will prove unintimidating and easy to use, while those who are after a load lugger that can take a huge payload will find a model that is up to their requirements too.
