Engines and Spec

Starting below the bonnets, let’s take a look at the driving force behind the Vauxhall Movano-e Tipper. Vauchall’s all-electric Movano-e is powered by a 90kWh motor, capable of producing a respectable 122hp and 260Nm of torque. What’s more, the Movano-e Tipper is available with a choice of either a 37kWh or 70kWh battery, with ranges of 72 miles and 139 miles. Both of these provide more than enough power for zippy urban driving and lugging loads back and forth. Of course, if a longer range is what you’re after, the 70kWh battery is a sure choice.

Regarding charge times, the Movano-e is capable of reaching 80% battery within an hour using a 50kW rapid charger. Using a standard 7kW wall box, however, the van will take between 6 and 12 hours to reach capacity.

Let’s talk payload! With a maximum payload capacity of 2,100kg, the Movano-e is more than capable of handling some serious cargo. Whether you’re tipping rubble away from a site or moving heavy goods across town, this van is up to the job.

So, how does the Volkswagen E-Crafter Tipper compare?

Volkswagen’s E-Crafter is powered by a 35kW battery, located beneath the floor to lower the centre of gravity. This equates to a smooth stable drive and a range of around 107 miles. The motor itself pushes 134bhp of power, plenty for those looking to lug a heavy load or two around town and nip in and out of urban traffic. Regarding charge times, the E-Crafter’s battery can be brought up to 80% in around 45 minutes but will take longer using a standard wall-mounted power pack.

When it comes to drivability, the E-Crafter is quiet and comfortable, with smooth acceleration and an impressive amount of instant torque, ideal for city driving and navigating urban roads. What’s more, safety functions include post-collision braking and crosswind assist. There’s no denying you’re in good hands with the E-Crafter.

Looking at the motors, batteries and driving quality of each of these vans only solidifies their reputations for quality. Sure, the Movano-e Tipper comes out on top regarding range, but the E-Crafter has just a tad more torque.

In terms of comfort, the E-Crafter’s interior is well-designed and luxurious. On warmer days, the automatic air-conditioning is a welcome addition.
