Maxus e-Deliver 9 Luton vs Renault Master Z.E. Luton

March 9th, 2023

The Luton van has a fun beginning not many know about. Other types of vans such as dropside and tippers have very self-explanatory names, but Luton breaks the mould when it comes to body type names. It started out as a product by a British vehicle manufacturer called Bedford Vehicles. It released the Bedford 2-ton lorry in the 1930s, which is considered to be the first Luton van.

The unusual design with a box-shaped body and compartment over the cab made it ideal for the transportation of straw. The straw hat industry was booming in Bedfordshire, so this van was primarily designed to aid this industry. The name Luton was originally a nickname taken from straw hat producers, who were inspired by the factory the van was produced at, situated in the town of Luton.

Luton vehicles remain extremely popular to this day, commonly used by professional removal companies or any business that wants to carry a lot of items with ease. The boxy design makes it ideal for bulky items that may not fit well in other-size vans.

Nowadays Luton vans are available in helpful electric variations, which are great for the environment and also offer great performance. Here at Van Sales UK, we stock a great variety of Luton electric vans, including the Maxus e-Deliver 9 and the Renault Master Z.E.

Engines and Spec

The Renault Master has been a top choice for those after a large van since 1980, with the Master Z.E. introduced in 2018. It is a battery electric vehicle with a maximum torque output of 225 Nm. When first introduced, it came with a 33 kWh lithium-ion battery engine, but a new version in spring 2022 upped this to a 52kWh engine. These two battery types can give a range of 120 or 190km, depending on driving conditions.

The payload is fairly substantial, and the fully electric engine can provide a smooth and quiet ride even when reaching the max payload. Find out more here in our full Renault Master Z.E. Luton review.

Moving onto the Maxus e-Deliver 9 Luton. A fairly new vehicle on the market, the Maxus Deliver 9 was only introduced in 2019 to replace the Maxus V80. Soon after this release, a fully electric variant was announced. It is a light commercial vehicle that produces zero emissions and has multiple battery size options: 51.5, 72 or 88.5 kwH.

These engines can produce around 310 Nm of torque, and can easily deal with large payloads without impacting the performance. The larger engine has an impressive range, stretching to over 200 miles depending on the conditions of the road and the driving style. The engine is also quick to charge if needed, capable of reaching the potential of 80% in just 40 minutes if needed.
