Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Tipper vs Vauxhall Movano-e Tipper

February 16th, 2023

While Mercedes-Benz is often seen as synonymous with luxury vehicles, Vauxhall is known for its long-lasting practicality. However, when it comes to commercial vehicles, it’s worth putting assumptions aside because, as you will see in this review, both brands put engines, spec and design at the forefront of their electric Tipper vehicle offerings.

The Tipper variety of commercial vans is the ideal choice for the easy load and unload of goods, due to its open body and large cargo. With the hit of a switch, a Tipper van can easily tip loads of over 1000kg out, perfect for businesses or workers who need to quickly and easily move large amounts of materials such as tradespeople, landscapers or removal specialists.

With its large cargo length of 3,320mm by 2,040mm, the Mercedes-Benz Tipper is considered one of the most adaptable vans on the market. It is not only incredibly reliable and efficient but can also be trusted to keep its passengers and payload safe and secure. By contrast, with a choice of two lengths and various types of cab, the Vauxhall Movano-e Tipper provides a versatile alternative for customers looking to benefit from the zero emissions, low running costs and range of up to 139 miles.

As both Tippers vehicles have so much to offer, we don’t blame you for struggling to choose between them! To help you decide, the experts here at Van Sales UK have put together a head to head review of the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Tipper vs the Movano-e Tipper below. Additionally if you’d like to know more about either van you can read the full, in-depth review of the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Tipper here and the Vauxhall Movano-e Tipper here.

Engines and Spec

With two battery variants, 41 or 55 kW-hr with an electric traction output of 85 kW and a range of 100km, the Mercedes-Benz Tipper will certainly get you from A to B but it is a fairly low range compared to some of the other electric vans available on the market. However, the charge time is rapid, reaching 80% in just two hours as standard and 30 minutes when using the fast charging option.

Comparatively, the Vauxhall’s all electric Movano-e Tipper is powered by a 90kWh motor that can produce a respectable 122hp and 260 Nm of torque. The battery is available as a 37kWh or 70kWh battery with ranges of 116km and 224 km respectively. With the ability to get from zero to 80% charge in an hour on rapid charge and six to twelve hours on a standard charge, the Movano-e is a great choice for both urban environments and longer haul drives.

Both vehicles benefit from a range of safety features designed to protect both passengers and other road users. The Mercedes-Benz has Active Brake Assist, deadlock, alarm and visible VIN, whereas the Movano-e includes forward collision alert, blind spot warning, lane departure warning and Hill Descent Control, which takes into account the extra length of a trailer when warning drivers about objects in their blind spot.

Interior

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz is very comfortable for a crew, with a double cab option available for those looking to transport a whole crew. The single cab option has comfortable seats for up to 3 people, with the double crew cab adding an additional row of 3 seats, meaning you can transport up to 6 if needed. The vehicle also has the option of silent cab experience, with the engine producing hardly any noise at all.

They have an infotainment system built into the newer models, featuring a helpful geocoded map system, voice control and more. Like many electric vehicles, the eSprinter interior differs slightly from the diesel version. You can expect slightly different controls, which will helpfully display battery level and range instead of fuel levels.

The interior of the Vauxhall Movano-e Tipper is also comfortable and spacious with a smooth and quiet ride, thanks to the fully-electric motor. As with other Vauxhall LCV models, the Movano-e benefits from both VauxhallConnect and then MyVauxhall app.

On the Movano-e, the MyVauxhall app allows access to useful information such as nearby charging stations, while VauxhallConnect gives drivers access to features such as current charge status. On all versions of All-New Movano, LIVE Navigation provides online traffic information in real-time.

The Verdict

Overall both vans are capable of transporting large, heavy loads and dumping it easily and efficiently. They both have a range of attractive features including instant torque, quick charging times, comfortable interior design and modern safety features.

Choosing between the two electric Tipper vehicles is tricky as both have considerable benefits but those looking for a higher range for longer distances might be swayed by the Vauxhall Movano-e Tipper. That said, those looking for a large cargo load might prefer the Mercedes-Benz Tipper as it with it’s significant cargo length.
