Citroen e-Relay Luton vs Vauxhall Movano-e Luton

February 16th, 2023

Electric vehicles have made serious headway in recent years.. There have been significant advances in battery lifespan, charging capabilities and in-vehicle technology making the electric van a real contender to the fossil fuel powered alternatives.

While the benefits of electric vehicles are becoming widely known – the cheap running costs, the environmental benefits and the improved technological function – there are so many electric vehicle options available in the market, choosing which one to buy can be tricky.

If you’re after a Luton van, then you’ve probably heard of the Vauxhall Movano and the Citroen Relay. In this blog we’ll be looking at an overview of their two highly competitive electric counterparts: the Citroen e-Relay Luton and the Vauxhall Movano-e Luton. We’ll compare the key information such as engines, spec and interior and then all that’s left for you to do is work out which one is the most suitable for your business needs.

The full reviews of the Citroen e-Relay Luton and the Vauxhall Movano-e Luton are also available to read on our website if you want to find out more details about these excellent electric commercial vehicles.

Engines and Spec

In terms of power, the Vauxhall Movano-e Luton really is a great option. The 90kW electric motor inside the van produces an exceptional 122bhp and 260 Nm of torque and reaches speeds of up to 75 mph. With a decent driving range of 154 miles per charge and quick charging from 0-80% in an hour, if you can find a 50kWh fast charger. If not, the more common 7kWh will have the battery charged in 6-12 hours.

Compare this with the Citroen e-Relay Luton, which comes equipped with a 75kWh battery and also has a generous driving range of 154 miles. A little quicker with the fast charger, it will impressively charge up to 85% in as little as 45 minutes. However, a more common 7kW charger that you’re likely to have available at your home or workplace will take up to 12 hours, but this is naturally acceptable if you’re leaving it overnight to charge.

The Vauxhall Movano-e has three sizes of panel van available (L2, L3 and L4) as well as a chassis cab for different body variants so can be tailored to suit your specific needs. The smallest panel has an average payload of 710 kg, which makes it suitable for urban areas but less so for long distance transportation.

Due to the fact the Citroen e-Relay’s battery is stored underneath the floor, the load space is not compromised and the payload is substantial. The L3 model is capable of 1147kg and the L4 model can take 979 kg, making it a more suitable choice for longer distances. As both are Luton design vans, there is additional space above the cab for both the Movano-e and the e-Relay that can be used for smaller, light objects.

Interior

Comfortably spacious, the cabin area of the Vauxhall Movano-e has buttons for gears and a 5 inch touchscreen infotainment display and in-built navigation system. The vehicle comes with Vauxhall Connect that features e-Call and b-Call emergency and breakdown technology. All of the necessary information you need – battery level, remaining range and current driving mode – is displayed on the rear view mirror. This does mean, however, that the instrument cluster is rendered redundant, showing you the speed and nothing else. Some may find this awkward and unnecessary if used in other vehicles.

The Citroen e-Relay has a good amount of storage space and there is more than enough room for three adults to sit comfortably, with even the middle passenger seat offering plenty of legroom. The gear lever has been removed and replaced with an intuitive button design to switch between drive modes with ease. As with the Movano-e, the charge level, driving mode and range are displayed within the rear view mirror.

The Verdict

If you need a van that performs well in urban environments, then the Vauxhall Movano-e Luton is the commercial vehicle for you. It’s ideal for delivery drivers and tradesmen who need to make regular stops and require a large loading space for goods, tools and materials.

On the other hand, the Citroen e-Relay Luton is the best choice if your job requires you to regularly transport large, bulky or awkward cargo over longer distances. The loading capacity is convenient and substantial, making the job at hand easier.

Van Sales UK has the Citroen e-Relay Luton available with low rate, zero deposit finance, starting from £409 plus VAT. The Vauxhall Movano-e Luton L3 is also available at the cheaper starting point of £309 plus VAT.
