Peugeot Partner Van vs Peugeot e-Partner Electric Van
In 2023, sustainability is on everyone’s agenda. We’re told to recycle more, reduce our waste and make sure we’re all doing our part to help the environment. In recent years a big push has been made in the automotive industry to try and introduce as many electric vehicles onto the streets as possible.
Most electric vans have zero tailpipe emissions, so are incredibly beneficial for the environment. However, some people doubt the performance of an electric vehicle, still preferring the diesel variant to accomplish tasks. Here at Van Sales UK, we understand this is a hot topic debate, so have put together this series comparing the best features of a diesel van vs its electric counterpart.
Today we are going to look at the Peugeot Partner and the Peugeot e-Partner. The Partner was officially launched in 1996 as a 4/5 door panel van for use as a commercial vehicle. There is also a passenger variant with rear seats, but for the purpose of this article, we will be focusing on commercial use. Since its first release, the van has gone through numerous changes, now being in its third generation which was first unveiled in 2018.
In 2021, the Partner branched out into the electric van market with the announcement of the Peugeot e-Partner, an electric version of the third-generation Partner. It is a battery-electric light-commercial vehicle that has become a popular choice for those seeking an eco-friendly alternative.
Here is a comparison between the vehicles to help you decide which is best for you.
Engines and Spec
Inside the e-Partner, you can expect to find a 100kw electric traction motor that is capable of delivering 260 nm of torque. The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 50 kW-hir, giving the van an impressive driving range of up to 170 miles, depending on factors such as weight and driving conditions. Instead of a transmission that you would expect in a manual car, the e-Partner has three distinct driving modes that you can toggle between when you need them. As mentioned in our full review, you can also expect a great speed, comfortably cruising along at 70mph, meaning you can easily take this van on the motorway without it struggling to keep up.
The newest model on the Peugeot Partner has a choice of three diesel engines available. These BlueHDi 75, 100 and 130 were chosen because they can help to meet emissions standards. If you’re looking for a premium driving experience with excellent handling and manoeuvrability, the BlueHDI 130 is the one to go for. It has an 8-speed automatic transmission, compared to the 6-speed manual transmission in the other models.
Interior
If you’re looking for a variety of body lengths, the Partner comes in standard and long variations. The longer model has a stretched wheelbase and extended rear overhang, which can help you carry longer or irregularly shaped loads. The standard length has a 1000kg capacity, with the longer model reducing this by 50kg. Find out more about the Partner in our full review. In terms of capacity in the e-Partner, the weight of the batteries factors into this, reducing the payload to around 800kg. But the battery is handily located beneath the seats, so your actual cargo space is not impeded.
But the cab of the e-Partner is great, with lots of space and storage to make the most of. A compatible mobile app can be used to easily operate your van, allowing you to easily take control of things like temperature, charging and remote functions. There is a large colour touchscreen to use, which can help with navigation, music and more.
The Verdict
Overall the e-Partner is a great vehicle that offers an amazing range and ideal top speed, features that many electric vehicles are found lacking. However, if you’re looking to maximise the amount of cargo you want to carry, the Partner trumps the electric version in this aspect. Both vans are great, and hopefully, this has helped you make an informed decision.
